After a journey with cancer in 2013, I had gained a lot of weight, was unhappy and my energy levels were crap. I tried everything…NOTHING worked! I have a coach as a real estate agent, so when Nikki mentioned health coaching, I figured why not try it for my health! She gave me simple and VERY effective activities, PLUS was a great support during tough weeks when I felt overwhelmed. I lost 14 lbs and was NEVER on "diet" or felt like I gave anything up! As a single mother, raising 2 teenagers and running a business, I found that I usually put myself, and my goals last either because I felt I didn’t have the time or I didn’t have the energy. When I started working with Nikki, she helped me reprioritize my schedule and clarify the true vision for my life.

Through the exercises given each week, I was able to uncover layer by layer, the shields I’d put up, the reasons I’d created and the labels I put on myself to excuse why I wasn’t achieving my goals. The weekly accountability and bite size action steps were the perfect combo to stair-step me to a place of strength.

I am into my 10th week of health coaching with Nikki. I am a private person in that I don't like to share much about my emotions or feelings. Health coaching has helped me name and define my feelings in ways that benefit my overall health. I've learned that emotional health is far more important to physical health than I've ever admitted. Our minds, our thoughts play a huge role in our physical health. I'm learning that replacing negative thoughts with positive thoughts can be life changing. It takes time and intentionality. I've learned to be kinder to myself, to allow for mistakes. I'm learning to accept my failures as opportunities for improvement rather than reasons for despair. Once the negative thoughts are replaced, they must be reinforced with positive, life giving thoughts. Then they must be repeated until they drown out the negativity. Health coaching is more than learning how to eat right or exercise. Being healthy is far more encompassing than physical health. It includes emotional and mental wellness. I'm grateful for the lessons I'm learning and look forward to using these new ideas in every area of my life.  - Emily M.

Feeling tired and lacking energy, I was happy to have the opportunity to work with Nikki. Over the past twelve weeks we have explored the physical, mental and emotional aspects of well-being. I have learned how food affects attitudes and attitudes drive what we eat and how. My energy has improved and my weight has dropped. Let Nikki teach you, coach you, and encourage you! I am a type 1 diabetic, and have always had poor eating habits, including eating large meals and routinely including junk food with meals and snacks. I was able to get away with those behaviors for a long time until my metabolism began to slow down a few years ago, and I quickly gained weight. After several half-hearted attempts at eating better and not sticking with it, I was invited to a “Kicking the Sugar Habit” talk by Nikki, and attended with an open mind. I was immediately struck by Nikki’s approach to healthy living, which didn’t just say to eat this & not to eat that, but to question and understand why I make decisions.

I then began a 90-day healthy living program with Nikki, and set 3 primary goals: to lose weight (~15 lbs), to lower my a1C, & to make permanent changes to reduce cravings and respond better to them. Over the course of 12 sessions, I was thrilled that each session added something small to do over the next week to begin building better behaviors, rather than overwhelming me with a large set of new life rules.

The biggest surprise for me was that healthy living can be fun! Finding exciting new combinations of food that give me what I need in nutrition, which are also great tasting and satisfying, is fulfilling in a way that I couldn’t previously imagine. I have always been somewhat picky in the types of foods that I eat, and this process has greatly expanded my potential food choices.

As the 90 days flew by, I was amazed at the progress that I was making in obtaining my goals and changing my behaviors. My family not only noticed the changes that I was making, they became more observant of their own choices as well, and were excited to try some of new recipes and eating behavior exercises that I was incorporating into my daily routine.

In the midst of my program, a doctor visit confirmed my best a1C score that I ever recall receiving! I also began steadily losing weight, about 1-2 lbs. per week, and seeing the physical results further increased my self-confidence and desire to further utilize the new tools that led to these results. I eventually reached my lowest weight in several years!

At the end of the 90 days, I knew that my health journey was not ending… It was just beginning. Everything that I learned from Nikki was so easy to incorporate into my daily life, yet so valuable, and I am excited to continue this path to healthy living! Thank you, Nikki!  - Brett C.
